That looks like the test port for the computer. But it should be in the engine compartment.
It could be the chime plug that activates the key in, door open chime, etc. That box sits just above the glove box.

Actually that is the connection plug for an electric rear window defogger timer module.

the Bronco2 uses the same dash wiring harness as a ranger and consequently there are things there that serve no purpose
