In the process of currently building a ranger truggy. I have the cab
completely stripped down and I'am building a completely new frame up. I was
thinking about just rebuilding my little 3.0 with a small service and
maintenance to keep it running (has been leaking coolant and oil for quite sometime now).
I got the bug of maybe doing an engine swap while I have everything out.

I know I can swap in a 4.0 easily from the same year 04 05 06 ranger. But I
want to make sure I have the right thought process or if Iam missing something????
If I got a complete donor vehicle with a V8 (preferbaly a 2001 explorer 302 AWD with low miles)
I already planned on running a np203/205 with an adapter from nwfab. I know the doubler will bolt up to the 4r70w with little mod to the extension housing.
----Can I just swap over the 5.0 to my cab without any wiring issues? If I swap over the speedometer cluster and steering column? I don't see why I would need to rewire anything. Am I missing something???

Axles are dana 60 front and sterling rear. It would potentially just be like a cab swap right? I dont mind losing AC I was already going to delete it from the 3.0

Thank you for time and response in advance

You can buy a 4.0l SOHC Ranger already to go, lol, so no real need for that swap.
Stay with 3.0l or go to V8.

There are a few wires, looks like 4, that go from the dash to the computer(PCM).
I am posting 2005 instrument and 2000 instrument

Looks like 4 wires on each but different pins on the PCM, and they are using the same base PCM, an EEC-V, so not sure on whats up with that.

When swapping computers in later models, 1998 and up, you need to swap keys, the PATS keys are coded to the computer, so your 3.0l computer and keys are a "matched set", the 5.0l computer and its keys will be a "matched set" as well.
If you get 2 working PATS keys with the Explorer you can add your 3.0l PATS keys to the 5.0l computer, not hard to do, just need non-PATS key for the 3.0l lock, then follow the procedure to add PATS keys.
But just have the 5.0l key next to the cylinder when you turn on ignition with the non-PATS key, so it only reads the one key, then repeat with second key to get into "add a key mode", then use/add 3.0l PATS keys
