Brakes not working after swap

Just completed an m5od swap (read pedals,column,and booster were removed and re-installed), also before the swap the truck had been just sitting for over a year. It's running again and the brakes don't work worth a darn, I bled the whole system extensively and I get pretty good pressure built up with the truck off. The second I start it up the goes mushy and stays that way, I get better stopping power from a downshift at this point and pumping the pedal does not help. I'm thinking maybe vacuum leak? but am not sure how or where to test for it, any suggestions or other ideas would be appreciated
