the engine that originally came in that truck was a 318,i put the 440 in it from a69 dodge polara station wagon, and it was rated at more than 220 hp,more like 350 horse, but yes the mid 70s were down years for american iron performance.

It is a real power wagon, back when power wagon meant 4wd dodge. Thats a clean truck for it's year.....I'll be working on a d300 dually from the mid 80's here soon, either a restore and DD or a diesel 4wd conversion.

No. 1980 ended the power wagon, and it only left the Ram Powerwagon, later known as the Power Ram. Sure it's a "Power Wagon" in name, but IMO it's not built nearly as well as the previous years. Which is why I put "real" in quotes. Dodge just failed at changing the name, and decided to do it a few years late.

A couple "real" power wagons..

We've had a few W series pickups, they were good trucks for what they were. And like I said before, a good find for the OP.

They made "Power Wagon" W-series since the '50's...

My Ranger is not old; no one would call her old. She has a bluff bow, lovely lines. She's a fine truck: weatherly, stiff and fast... very fast, if she's well handled. No, she's not old; she's in her prime.

while the 318 is a small engine for that truck there is plenty of aftermarket for it. no where near a sbf or sbc but you CAN get good power out of them. plus they used that engine up until the early 2000's although in fuel injected form
