My alternator is slowly on its way out in my ranger, and i'm looking for an easy yet cheap upgrade. I got to looking at alternators from explorers, and ive seen several 130a alternators. Although, they only have 3 wires, whereas my ranger has 4 wires.

Now i want to go to the 130a alternator that has only 2 wires.

What, if anything will i have to do to swap these over?

None of the swaps in the tech article section answer my question.

If you get the model number of the old one and the new one we can figure out the wiring issue.

Read the section on Alternators.

Also as far as I can see the middle wire on out 95 amp alternators just goes to the single connector on the Alternator, as far as the diagrams I have seen. That connector is for the dash light. I'm not sure yet what to do with it yet.

Upon doing research that wire runs from the regulator to stator. Wheras the one on the 130a is internally done.

I just got the matching one from a parts store but for an explorer...been working great since. Took all of 30 min to swap and cost the same as the 95amp version.
