Fuel pressure regulator question

I have a 1998 Ranger with a 2.5, 4 banger. I purchased a 1997 Explorer as a donor. I have the engine and transmission out and have been removing the needed parts from the Exlorer to be used for the swap. Today I removed the fuel tank, when I removed the fuel sender and pump there was no regulator in the tank, it all looks OEM. It has a rubber hose connecting the fuel delivery line to the pump, all of it looks factory. The engine has a return line. it also has a vacuume operated regulator on the fuel rail. The build date on the Explorer is Nov 1996, it's an early 1997. I can't find any info on this, has anyone run in to this.

96-98 explorer 5.0's were return style fuel system, 99-01 were returnless, 96-97 had no pats, 98-01 had pats, 98 was a year that had many changes, and highly suggest staying away from. Your swap is mostly plug n play, short of adding a return line, and swapping/bypassing the intank regulator...

I removed the factory return line from the Explorer. I plan to add the return line from the Ex sending unit into the ranger sending unit. I will drill the top of the ranger sending unit and silver solder the Explorer tube into the Ranger sending unit. ( I will take the sending unit out of the tank first). I should be able to keep the factory quick disconnect.

Should I just use the Explorer fuel Pump and bypass the regulator?

Definitely bypass the regulator in the tank (or pickup a fuel pump assembly unit for a 4.0, it'll be setup for return fuel), you can use either pump, both have the same output...
