I'm replacing the motor in my truck with one from another '96 like mine. This motor didn't come with a camshaft synchronizer. I pulled the one out of my old motor, it doesn't turn smooth, but it'll work for now.

Can anybody walk me through putting it in and getting it timed right? I do not have the alignment tool and the parts stores don't either.

Thanks

Nobody has had to replace this?

Can anybody tell me where to get one? Any other names for it?

Part numbers?

Anything?

Thanks for the reply. Now I've seen what the tool looks like and have a better understand of what it does.

My new cam synchronizer (also found it called "cam angle sensor" and "crank and sensor" and "auxilary shaft") didn't come with a tool, but has a dot painted on the gear that looks like it lines it up at the proper setting, but doesn't hold it in place.

BTW I got this new one at NAPA, reman with the CPS sensor on it already, for 75 bucks before my discount. I ended up paying about 55 bucks after turning in the core shaft and getting my discount. Dealer wanted 130 bucks just for the shaft.

Any tricks to getting this in? I couldn't get it last night.

Thanks!

Finally got the damn thing in last night. I had to use a file to bring it back into round in order for it to slide down.

I don't know if I got the right angle or not, hopefully that painted dot was intended to be used to line it up.

Hopefully tonight I get the motor back in and see if it runs.
