Hey everyone, looking to get a new FOB. I've seen some Ebay retailers selling Key/FOB all in one's that claim they will work on older Rangers. I'm wondering if there is any merit to thier claim? I've drive a 2003 model and from what I know my model year only had the key and FOB's as separate units. My brother's F150 has the key/fob combo and it is pretty sweet. The Key/FOBS I've seen on ebay that claim to fit my ranger look like thiskey FOB.jpg

I would be skeptical. I know from experience on vehicles other than Rangers that the older keys and fobs work on vehicles that came with IKT (integrated keyhead transmitter) but that the IKTs don't work on the other vehicles.

Now that is with Ford keys, because the transmitter and chip work on different frequencies but the car is setup to read both the old and new frequencies. If the ebay key is running on the older one it would work.

FWIW I had one of those for about a week after I bought my wife a new Escape a few years ago, then I went and made myself an old-style key for it. I hated having that huge thing in my pocket.

so long as the radio reciever matches bandwidth and can be linked to your car, and the key is a physical match, there is no reason why doing this wouldn't work.

Life hack: take split your fob open, cut the case to allow you to put the key in, then put it back together.
