My speedo, odo, dome light, wipers and 3rd brake light all went out at the same time. I also have to start the truck in neutral and shift to drive or reverse after it starts. If I start it while in park, I cannot shift.

Anyway, I'm trying to fix this without taking to the dealership. Local shop told me I needed a new GEM Module but it didn't fix anything. I am also not getting voltage to fuses 3,4,7,8.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

sounds like you have a short somewhere... what do you mean by you can't get it out of park? does the shifter physically not move or does it stall?..

also, can you possibly provide the id's for fuses 3,4,7 and 8?

This may sound crazy but bear with me for a moment. check your trailer connector and the splice where it goes into the harness. Here's the reasoning for this suggestion, the solenoid that prevents you from shifting out of park unless you are pushing the brakes is powered by the stop light circuit.

Hi there,

I don't know what the fuses are for, I don't have a diagram or an owner's manual for the truck, I bought it used. I think they might be related to the trailer lights. Oh and the shifter physically will not go from P to D when I start it. I have to turn the key, put it in N, start it then shift to drive or reverse.

What do I look for at the splice? I have changed the brake light switch that is on the brake pedal but it didn't fix my problem.

Thank you all your help is appreciated!

Well, I read on another forum that fuse 26 goes bad sometimes. I went to check fuse and 26 and it wasn't there for some odd reason. I wonder if the mechanic I took it to removed it and forgot to put it back. Anyway, I put in a 10A fuse and the speedo, odo and wipers began working.

Regarding the shifting issue, what solenoid are you guys talking about?

Thanks for the owners manual, I have it saved on my desktop now!

The solenoid prevents the transmission being moved out of park unless you are pushing the brake pedal, If the brake light circuit is out the solenoid is also not working.

@martin, is this solenoid you're talking about the neutral safety switch? IDK what solenoid I am to be looking for to change out, can you be a little more specific?

Thanks for all your guys' help!
