egr block

if i block the egr port on the intake the engine dies at idle unless i crack the throttle part way.

question, is there a block off plate that will work so the motor idles

91 f250, 460, auto

The EGR should be blocked at idle by the closed valve. I doubt that blocking it further is causing your stalling problem. And making the plate out of a different material shouldn't change any of that.

Did you unplug the IAC while installing your block plate?

Yes the iac was clear. I can make a video and post it to YouTube later today.

Working EGR Valve is closed fully at idle, as adsm08 said, exhaust gases are only added to intake to reduce NOX, a toxic gas which is produced when engine is under a load.

There is something else at work here.
In any case the computer should open IAC Valve a bit more to prevent the stumbling and stalling if warm engine RPMs drop below about 650-700 manual trans, 700-750 automatic
IAC Valve opening is the same as "cracking the throttle" a bit more, and computer should do that automatically

At cold start idle should be around 1,100rpm or so, does that happen?
Thats the IAC valve and computer working
