Biggest and widest tire size on factory rims and hight

Whats the biggest and widest tire size that i can fit on my 98 Ford Ranger 4x4 without them rubbing.

There's a cool article on that in the tech articles. I'm on my phone right now and don't know how to find and link to it from here. There's also a chart that gives a good idea of how tire size, gear ratios and engine rpm relate. That one gives a good idea of the drivability of certain combinations.

Not twisting the torsion bars, possibly a 32" tire, although that'd depend on how much the suspension has saved over the last 18 years. Common size in that diameter would be a 32x11.5R15.

Probably fit a 31x10.5 on stock wheels and height with no issues. If you feel like twisting the torsion bars, you could probably do a 33x10.5 with no problems on a stock wheel.

All of that is assuming that you have factory 15" wheels.

I believe my truck has the factory 16 inch wheels with factory suspension.

16's were rare on Rangers. In fact I don't think I have ever seen a 16" Ranger rim outside of a catalog listing. It would be far more likely that they were swapped off an Explorer if you actually have 16" rims.

Post a photo. I want to see what rims and tires are on your Ranger. I have yet to see a Ranger with factory 16's on the roar or at any dealership...new I am talking about. I only saw them in catalogs. Pretty rare find if that truck came with them!!! COOL, so COOL!!

Really? My 99 came stock with them as well. This is the only picture I can find of it wearing the stock wheels.

That might explain why I'm having such a time finding a set of take off wheels from a 2007+ Ranger, looking for the split 5 spoke 16" wheels.

16s are plentiful, I see several any time I'm on the road.
used a lot when the front rotors grew to 12", the 15s did not clear the bigger brakes until the split 5 spoke D had the barrel enlarged about '09 or '10.

So whats the biggest and widest tires I can get on this Ranger. I will be messing with the torsion to get the minimum 1.5 inch lift.

According to this (click here), I would recommend no bigger than 31" with your torsion bar tweak. probably 31/10.50 There was a recommendation early in this thread that you might fit 32's.

Follow that link above to the tech article and scroll way down the page to this picture of a '98 with 33's. It says that truck has the torsion bar adjustment and 3" body lift. That looks pretty tight to me. Remember that the tire needs more room when you turn the steering wheel with suspension up-travel. because the diagonal width of the tire must fit in the fender opening.

Ended up ordeing the blocks for the rear and torsiin keys for the front. Hopefully ill be able to fit 33s

This is the only picture I can get to at the moment of my my 99 with a twist and lifting shackles. It's wearing 32x11.5R15. The lift shackles are about 2" longer than stock, but I can't say exactly how much lift they give.

I'll see if I can find a better picture of it when I get home tonight.

I'm actually getting ready to go in the opposite direction once these tires wear out. Between the weight and diameter they are hurting my power, performance, and efficiency too much for my liking with stock 4.10 gearing. If rather drop down on tire size and lift, than change gearing. Should make it better for my daily commute am the occasional towing that I do, while also putting it more in line with what I need from a truck.
