I just replaced my brake booster for the second time and i have to push the pedal in quite a long way to get the brakes to stop my ranger. so i un bolted my master cylinder and tried to adjust the screw coming out of the booster, is that all i have to do? the end of the rod seemed to have a lot of brake fluid on it so would my master cylinder be going out too?

Help me out please,

Sounds more like the rear brakes are out of adjustment.

I wouldn't adjust the booster...been there and it just made things worse. I'd agree with the rears being in need of adjustment or you may have a leak somewhere in one of the lines or the rear cylinders.

Mine became real spongy after the driver side rear cylinder sprung a leak...and all kind of adjustment and fine tuning did was mess things up...maybe pull the rear drums or have a good look for wet spots...

ok thanks i did recently do a brake job on the rear so i think i just need to pull the little rubber plug and turn the screw that pushes the brakes out and check for some leaks and ill get back to you

The star wheel adjuster usually just needs a few "clicks" to put them up if you didn't replace the drums or have them turned...

I found one of the best ways was to "self adjust" them by backing up and hammering on the brakes...but you need to hit at least 20 miles per hour in reverse...may take a few shots at it but if the pedal comes up then it's working and that is the problem...if there are other problems though this method can actually be a bit dangerous...lol
