Okay, I thought cleaning the idle air control valve would take care of the high idle and this annoying hum/whine. Used to, when the engine warmed up and the weather was hot, it would howl with a high idle. After flushing out with carb cleaner, the idle is better but it now howls up to about 2krpm!!! Do I need a new IAC, parts house wants 65 bucks? OR do I need to look at other components??

Thanks,

96stx:bawling:

My credo
I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
50% of the time cleaning the IAC is just a waste. I dont even bother wasting my time cleaning them anymore, if they're sticking or slow.... I replace it.

Yeah, that pesky IAC of mine was howling for months. Cleaning & changing its gasket & felt pad (under cap) didn't help. Replacing it worked swell, for me.

Our 4.0 had a whistling sound at random RPMS and after running a smoke test on the engine I discovered a leak at the EGR feed tube where it enter the intake. I did the test on the engine cold then with it warm. Cold had no leak there but after it warmed it had a decent leak. May besomething to look at if you continue ot have issues.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help. I'm going to look for a cheap source for the part, and check for leaks.

Just thought I would add, if you maintain your IACV (don't just clean it when it finally gives you problems). You can avoid the problem and the cost of a new unit. Its been working on my truck for 260,000km so far.
