7.5 to 8.8 conversion

I have a 1988 ford ranger that came factory with the 7.5 inch rear end...i'm almost at the end of my 8.8 swap but the bolt patterns are different. i have the yoke to match the 8.8 but i need the u joint to connect it to my drive shaft...anyone know what i would neeed?

Did you get this figured out? Is it 2wd or 4wd? Regular or Extended Cab?

If it's 4wd Ext. Cab, you can use the driveshaft from a 98+ 4wd Ranger as a bolt in swap..

The u-joint is the same from your existing shaft to the one that the yoke came from. It's a standard issue 369 joint.

Thanks guys! Worked out just fine...the way the new yoke looks just makes the u-joint look larger

Well I got it on the road and a really bad vibration and the u joints are indeed different. Is there one I can buy or will u have to have a custom shaft made?

Get a drive shaft out of a newer truck or find a conversion joint.

Probably not. I just assumed that since you have an 88 2wd you had an M5OD. The 132 wasn't that common.

It originally had the m5OD but I found a donor truck on the cheap that would get me down the road and that u joint matched up just fine. So I'm assuming it would. So basically I need to find a manual single cab with the 8.8

Found it. My dude Ken at autozone found me a bastard joint. It's the same 1.060 caps and the lengths are 3.6 on one side and 3.2 on the other...I have the part number somewhere in case anyone else runs into this issue!

Yeah. I have a bastard shaft. It's off a m5OD with a 7.5 rear end and now it has a fm132 and an 8.8.

Got the rear end in. Worked great for about 500 or so miles then I started getting. Whine after I put new tires on. It's out of a 2000 ranger and my master tech said it's definitely not the tires making the noise. Are bearings a probable suspect?
