For drop-in paper filters Fram and Purolator are my top two choices for aftermarket.

I slam Fram oil filters up and down all day long. Their air filters are actually really good. Purolators are a close second IMO.

You're looking to balance filtration with air flow. Filters that remove finer dust particles will have reduced flow unless their filter area is increased. As a filter gets dirty it's efficiency to remove dirt actually increases.

Here's a little experiment to understand the thinking.

Most aftermarket filters probably do a pretty good job.

No issues with the purolator in my 1995 3.0. Fram also looked good. I still use the Ford Motorcraft FL-400S for my oil filter though.

I don't really know why; but, I use Wix filters for everything.

they said Ford still makes air filters for my truck.
Doubt Ford actually makes the filters. Most likely they contract to Wix, Purolator or other. You more than likely paid much more for the same filter at a parts store.

I get tired of that.

A guy at the local Carquest is always spouting that. "Carquest filters are made by Wix" "Carquest oil is made by Valvoline"

Well the Fiesta is made by Ford. So is the new GT. Does that mean they are the same car? No, they are made to different specs.

BTW I run Wix air filters that actually say Wix on them. :icon_thumby:

That would be OK if you knew the "better" or "different" specs that Ford uses. Could you tell us what those specs are?

Why not Ford with the better specs?

Never looked into it. I don't see them marking down the same product that much and letting it fly under someone else's name that directly competes with their name.

I was just saying just because it is made by the same company that doesn't mean it is the same thing.

Why not Ford with the better specs?
I could probably buy 3-4 Wix for what the local dealer would want for one. And I don't think the difference in quality would be huge.

I use MC oil filters and oil because they are priced reasonably at wally world.

My truck almost has 140k miles on it running in a filthy environment, intake is always clean and it runs great. I do check them every oil change because I do a lot of running on gravel roads.
