Vents

I can't find the info anymore as to why, but my daughters '93 Ranger has no air flow through the dash vents, when the control panel directs it that way. Yes, it's through the defrost and on the floor, but not vents. What's the reason? I had the info that it's for a "fail" situation, but can't find it anymore. Thanks for the help.

until someone gives you the right answer...bump the airbox that's under the dash a couple times to see if you can get the air "doors" to unstick......so the air will come out of the dash vents....

That usually means there's a loss of vacuum. Check under the hood, for a broken line, bad check valve, leaking reservoir, etc. It can be under the dash too but with the engine heat, things dry out there. That's where I've found most leaks.

93 uses a vac driven mode door. Floor/defrost is the default position, generally caused by a loss of vacuum to the system. Start looking for broken lines.

I had been thinking vac line, also. Ones I hadn't replaced, I rechecked. Pulled the dash, as I had to change a bulb anyway, and surprise! It's a broken cable! (I hadn't seen vac lines to the control panel). Then end that was left was not easily movable, so it's stuck somewhere inside further.

Does the other end of the cable go to heater/ac box on firewall in engine compartment? Easy to replace?
