I have a regular cab 87 ranger. I have the speakers in the dash that are good quality speakers. I have two six x nine speakers behind the seat. I sound pretty crappy. I don't have a stock setup for door speakers. I am not looking for loud, I am looking for good sound????

I showed you what I had on FB. They do sound good (and loud). they do take up a lot of space though. You should be able to build some nice boxes for some decent 6x9 and still have room (If I remember correct, you are really long (LOL) and need all of your seat adjustment). I would check out places like Crutchfield for ideas. They have programs telling you what fits.

Under the window crank in the doors. You can fit a set of 6.5s or 6x9s. Reason it sounds crappy is because the seat is muffling the speakers. Putting them in the door will make a huge difference.

My credo
To each his own.
Take the small speakers out of the dash. If 6x9 fit your doors. 2 quality 6x9 with a good amp is all you need. I have an Alpine 4x50 amp, 1 6x8 Kappa in each door, 1 10" Pioneer sub behind driver seat. Will blow you away. Setup and tuning is everything. If you don't know what you are doing, will probably sound like crap. You might get lucky tho.

Might check into swapping to second gen door panels. The flimsy first gen door panels don't really have the structure to hold speakers, most I see in Jy's the speakers are pulling the door panels apart.

I am building new door panels. I think Masonite should do the trick. I also think a spacer between the panel that will point the speaker up more will also help. Is there a powered sub that will fit under the seats?

If I find some good 2nd gen doors that are all power I will do that.

I kinda forgot but if you have a bench seat with the thick cardboard on the back, removing the cardboard really helps the sound come thru the seat.
