2003 Ford Ranger Edge 3.0 Flex Fuel 2WD into 1998 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0 NON-Flex 2WD. I pulled wiring harnesses, PCM, steering column from donor 2003. Still won't run! PATS is my problem. How do I fix it? What did I miss?

Sounds like you missed the PATS module. I can't remember if it was it's own unit that year, or part of the instrument cluster.

I believe it's in the instrument cluster. What else did I miss? The 1998 didn't have PATS. So, I took what I thought I needed. Apparently not!

Well I grabbed my second key and reset the system. It seems to have worked! Runs rough, I would have to say fuel pump and sensors. I will drop the gas tank and add the donors tank. Hopefully that will work.

I believe it's in the instrument cluster.
For the 2003 it's in the steering column cover. The system will allow up to eight keys to be programed.

Well, it worked for a short time. Started having problems again. Now, it won't start again. I'm having fuel pressure problems. Any ideas?

Fuel pump was the problem! It was pumping, but weak. So, now back on the road? Nope!
I found a problem with the ignition coil. So, now my question is.....can I put an ignition coil out of a 1999 Ranger XLT 3.0, vertical connector in now. The one out of the 1998 was bad and the one from the 2003 has 4,5 and 6 DEAD!
Will this nightmare ever end!

My credo
Break it right the first time. Fix it better the next time.
Just put a 5.0 in it like I did and have some fun :headbang:
