Trying to build my 4.0 a little better. I only have about a grand or so I can spare to put in and would like to know what I can do. I'm looking to keep it a daily driver and I would be happy if I could get anywhere between 230-250 hp. I've heard the most used way to get more hp is by using a better cam but my question is which one to use and what would be all the components I need for an upgraded cam? Another one I heard mentioned was heads I believe? Any help here would really be appreciated guys. Not looking for something insane like a swap, and I don't want to boost it(not yet anyway) so I appreciate any and all help.

4.0l OHV has base HP at 160, so 230hp would require more than a Cam, 5.0l V8 only pushes out 215hp.

Basically there are two ways to get more power, reduce the vehicle weight or increase the amount of fuel engine can burn :)
Higher compression engine creates more expansion force so increases HP without effecting MPG that much, although higher octane fuel must be used so......MPG cost does go up.
Longer dwell cams allow more air/fuel in so increased HP and decrease MPG.
Turbo chargers force more air/fuel into cylinder so increased HP and usually decreased MPG because of driving habits, lol

Have a look here and toward the bottom there are upgrade options

I'd personally like to build it up a little before turboing it
