wondering what you guys thought for the price of a ranger.

my dads cousin just recently passed and his wife is planning on selling his ranger.

its a 1993 supercab 4x2, 3.0, 5 speed manual. 12,000 miles. Yes.... 12,000 miles. Its is nice as the day it rolled off the assembly line. garage kept, never seen snow or rain.

what do you think would be a fair price?

I keep debating about buying it, but I have no use for a 2wd. I know if I did buy it I would have to do something crazy and do a 4x4 SAS swap with a coyote under the hood :headbang:

On a '93, the odometer zeros after 99,999.9.

I think Andy may be suggesting that it is actually 112,000 or 212,000 as the odometer would show no difference.

He is a BMW guy, they don't pay attention to details, like that this is a truck that is in your family, so you probably actually know if it has been rolled over or not.

As for price, honestly it isn't worth much, even in near-showroom condition. It is a basic truck that is old enough to drink all that alcohol in the fuel, and if it pays the surcharge it can rent it's own car. Probably $1200 tops.

I have known the truck from day one and everyone that knew the guy knows that it is in fact 12,000 original miles. He also had a 10,xxx mile original 442

he was the craziest guy you would ever meet and kept everything he ever owned in as nice of shape as the day he bought it new. vehicles, tractors, chainsaws, you name it, it was pristine condition.

I figured its not worth much, checked kkb and nada...im just waiting for it to come out of probate since it was only in his name and waiting for his wife to give me a price.

to me its worth very little as well being a 4x2.... but it would be a hell of a truck to start with for a custom build being as old as it is and brand new at the same time. Id be able to do a v8 swap and never have to worry about emissions here in CT due to the age!

if I end up buying it, ill post it up.

$1200 seems really low. yes its 2wd but its extended cab, probably little rust, low miles, I would say start at $2500 and take the first 2000-2200 offer. Low miles doesn't always make it a gold mine. That just leave more room for rubber to dry out, electronics to seize, stuff to rot. Low miles but it has still aged, its still almost 25 years old. time, weather, and the sun can do a lot of damage to a sitting car.

Rangers are not "collector" type vehicles, so while miles matter buyers are usually more interested in pickup truck use, not low miles.

But older vehicles in good condition do appeal to some buyers so I would do as 91stranger suggests, go higher in price, but not too high, to get calls/offers

And as always, location, location, location
Look at local used car and truck "asking prices", and they are "asking prices" not "sold for" prices.
There is no value or "worth" in an asking price, a buyer decides what a vehicles value/worth are, not the seller

Get an idea of what sellers of 1993 Rangers are thinking they are worth in your area, then bump it up a bit for condition and lower miles

also depends on what part of the country you're in. specifically the rust belt where good stuff is hard to find.

Well, that didn't work. Let's try something else!

This. Here in Missouri, 1200 will hardly buy something that runs. I'd jump on a 1200 running ranger with low miles just because it would make a good daily driver.

Love Thy Neighbor
If you are going to buy it for yourself I'd offer $1,500 if it is in the mint condition you say. I would also be crawling around underneath it and pulling the dash apart to look at the firewall just to be sure it is not rusting out as most Rangers do.

If it was stored indoors all these years and never saw salt or chemicals, acid rain, or sappy trees it would be worth that and more if it is running.

Just my 2¢ worth and that's Canadian money so I understand there is a bit less value...to some...:)

it is what it is
1500 or less even in excellent condition. yes 12k miles is low for a 15 year old vehicle...but its still 15 years old. blue book or black book may say more but those are more of guidelines on what to look for in the price. if it was a 4x4 i would say 2k tops. as stated before its not a collectors vehicle. the general public would be buying this truck as a grocery runner or a first vehicle for a child.

a 12k motor and trans is nice to have as theres probably plenty of life left in the vehicle. someone looking for an errand everyday beat around vehicle will more than likely sacrifice low miles for a high mileage vehicle they can put another 20-40k on over 5 years
