I've read some about 5.0L V8 conversions for older, maybe pre-2000, Rangers using Explorers as donors.

Anyone know if this is possible with a 2002 Ranger? I'd seriously like to do the conversion.

Great source for information.

Anyone know of any shops in Colorado who have done the 5.0L conversion and are willing to do another?

An engine swap is not really something to pay a shop to do. It will get very scary very quickly.

Heck, they get scary enough with parts let alone $100+/hr shop labor.

The conversion may be serious money but I have no place to do the conversion. Furthermore, checking the price of new Ford 150's - some up to $60K, I don't see $15K for a 5.0L conversion as unreasonable. I can't buy a new decent truck for that.

My Ranger is in great condition but the 3.0L six is a wimp. Oh, it will run 80 mph all day but it takes a while to get up to speed on the Interstate while all the cars are whizzing around me.

So I've read through the links. Very good information.

Anyone know what automatic transmission I have in my 2002 4WD XLT? Will a 5.0L mate to this transmission?

You must be in an awful big hurry if youre willing to pay a shop to do a 302 conversion just so you can knock a second off your 0-60
