Something I've noticed about people's opinions on the new Ford Ranger

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Some of y'all seem really stuck in your ways. Unfortunately, for good or for bad, self-driving cars are probably in our future. The current technologies are kinda just an incremental step in that direction, at least that's the way I see it.
I may be stuck in some of my ways and I'm willing to admit that. I enjoy driving and I want to be in control of my vehicle, with the exception of occasional cruise control usage. Some people may benefit from self-driving cars. But I don't really want to be on the road near them.

Furthermore, how can the Rubicon or other 4X4 tracks be any fun in an autonomous vehicle? I know self-driving cars are coming. I work in a BMW manufacturing plant and I know how the manufacturers are working on this garbage. But I don't want anyone, governments or industry to force this on me. That will make me a very, very grumpy man.

To each his own.
Self driving crap, I like the term may I steal it?

Wife drives a 2017 CRV and I scream at it at least once when it starts beeping wildly when someone passes behind me and I am in reverse. Really? Is there that many people that don't look behind them when they back up that they need a warning feature?

When you drift out of your lane it shakes the steering wheel and displays a coffee cup on the dash monitor.

What is equally as disturbing is that what was obviously a robot that started this thread just to instigate a subject about something they are probably paid to advertise is getting so many replies. I would have banned them at my place and deleted the topic.
What is your place ?

lol, not a robot or being paid by Ford, I'm simply an individual who is considering the Ford Ranger for my next vehicle when it comes out next year. Some of y'all seem really stuck in your ways. Unfortunately, for good or for bad, self-driving cars are probably in our future. The current technologies are kinda just an incremental step in that direction, at least that's the way I see it.

OK I stand corrected, man I have seen this so many times before since I'm a forum fanatic and it is almost always a robot, and if it doesn't get replies another will come by and reply.

I'm teetering back and forth on buying one, I hate the automatic stuff but just love that they are calling it a Ranger.

I have been a mod for over a year and been on here for 16 years, I didn't pick up any of that.

Robots usually post wanting to sell sunglasses or videos in the introduce yourself section, not a coherent post on a subject people of expressed concern about in the correct section. :icon_thumby:

We do have a section Ford occasionally posts blurbs about whatever, I don't think they monitor how many reads it gets though.

I'm a soon to be truck buyer. I'm still on the fence on what to do. But a new Ranger when they come out and have a warranty, or buy a used loaded up F-150 with about 30,000 miles on it for maybe about the same price? Will see when they price these rangers. I don't put many miles on my personal truck in a year. I have farm truck superduties and wife's Edge for that.

Yep many people never look behind them, or around them before moving their vehicle, nose stuck in their damn cell phone 100% of the time...or the morons walking to or from a store with their nose stuck in their phone 100% of the time...nobody pays attention to anything anymore then bitch whine and moan when they get their ass ran over, or wreck their plastic toy cars.

If you can't drive or too lazy to drive you shouldn't have a car period, I don't care if it thinks it can drive itself or not you don't need it. Walk, ride a bike, take a bus. Automated stuff goes haywire far more often than it should and trusting it in a deadly weapon careening down the freeway at 80mph is an extremely stupid idea.

Driving should be fun and adventurous, I enjoy driving, just not with the moron drivers that seem to keep appearing in larger and larger numbers every day it seems. Out on the open roads and back roads driving is very enjoyable. However, it would be fun to take one of those stupid wanna be self driving cars through some of the roads I drive, you'd have to drive it yourself the car wouldn't have enough processing power to realize there isn't a nice pretty paved road with lines on it to follow.

What the hell would these cars do when they encounter a snow storm, slam on the brakes in the middle of the freeway because their path disappeared?

A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
Self driving cars are the brain child of millenials trying to figure out how they can stay on social media and still get to starbucks after mom passes on.

Watch some old car commercials, even from the 80s or 90s, it used to be about "fun" "excitement" "thrill", etc.

Now its "Smart features", "Wifi integrated" "Apps"....

Take a kid 30 or 40 years from now whos only ridden in self driving, electric, beige mobiles and plop his ass in a 440 roadrunner for a ride, 50 bucks says he forrest gumps his pants in the first 5 miles.

Didn't they also have built in car phones, lazy-boys for seats and lights to tell you that you had lights out then? All with an optional 200hp and tons of body roll?

Fun, excitement, thrill... 1980/90's...

I get your point, but my point was more about marketing trends.

Marketing has always been pushing tech and critter comforts.

I remember in the early 90's a built in car phone was a big deal. Before that Ford offered built in CB radios. Now they have built in WIFI (that doesn't work in my area :icon_rofl:)

People have always wanted it and companies that stay in business build what buyers what, especially if they can charge a premium for it at the same time.

My 75 i had in high school had the optional factory CB. Kind of neat.

My mom bought a brand spankin new escort in 1994, it had a car phone that looked like a purse with a ford oval on it. It never worked.

I just think in car tech/gadgetry/etc is past the point of stupidity now. Are you really in such a hurry all the time you need to have your car call ahead to get your coffee ready? Seriously folks, drop 79 cents at speedway and be on your way.

I would love to happen upon one for my '85 some day, I think it would be a cool period accessory.
