I want to do a 351w swap in my 1992 ranger. It is completley stripped no interior and mo ranger wiring harness in the cab or engine compartment. I have read articles in the tech section and have done a search on the web. I havent found any straoght forward answers to my question. This willbe a strictly drag truck only. I know i will need to computer and harnesses for a 351. But how do i go about wiring it al together i wont be running head lights tail lights A/C or heat or none of that stuff. I just want to run the engine. The reason for efi is i want to run a turbo. I know about mega squirt and all the aftermarket efi units but i dont have the cash to drop on one plus i want to do it this way to have a better understanding on how to do it for future projects. Any help is greatly appreciated thanks

Get you an electrical schematics for the vehicle you pull the motor from. From there you will know which wires you need to hook up. You will need the engine harness and sensors, ecu, & maf if your donor has one...

Well the motor i have is from a 1974 gran torino so the block numbers say. So i would have to get the computer and harness from a vehicle with a 351w and get the upper and lower intakes from said vehicle right.

You need atleast one tail light for track use. It's almost a good idea to get a painless or similar kit and wiring what you need. Whrre are you located?

You are in way over your head.

Your best bet is to use the chassis steering column not the donor motor's.

The efi system you use dictates everything. Decide on a specific system and go from there.

By the way the factory ecu out of a Broncos or f150 (common sources for 351w) are not going to be able to understand boost without a tune or a boost referenced fpr. Not sure if you are aware.

I'm not flaming, I have a 302 83 ranger, I just don't think you have the knowledge to dive into this single handedly yet.

My credo
If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
Do you want fuel injection? or do you want fuel injection because you want to use a turbo?
How much boost?

you can use a turbo with a carb..... if you want it to run correctly you need an efi cam. Infact, if you fuel inject the engine you have, you need an EFI cam for it to run properly.

build your engine first then research what you want to do, then come back and ask about which computer and wiring.

You may be over your head, but thats how you learn

What I do is map out the whole thing start to finish and then I determine if I'll need help.

Hook up ignition means 12 volts power when key is turned on. Its a painless wiring harness, not my own. I can build one, but you can also buy them. The one I have is no longer available, it sold last night...
