Damn.

At the end of the show I watched, they were saying how people around Austin Texas catch the rain water off their roof and store it for use. Anyone seen these setups?

We call them Cisterns in Canada...but there are many variations...like rain barrels under eaves troughs...

Purification is necessary in some cases...

Not to mention bug screens...which is partially why we have teeth...

Everything old is new again...when I was a little spud, almost every house had a cistern and a well...that went away with REA and municipal water. I still haven't gotten used to the idea of bottled water and paying for it. If you want good ideas on setting up your own water/rain catchment system, visit the desert southwest and see how really simple, effective systems work. Hide it at home until you're sure it's within the letter of the law.
"Whiskey's for drinking, water's for fighting over"...as the old saying back home says.

Some people in the mountains of Virginia use Cisterns. The Rock cannot be drilled to reach water.
