After a quick cleaning in the parts cleaner:

Almost looks like a new part compared to the old one. FWIW the "new" one (from a 1994) is much smoother cast, almost polished compared to the rough cast "old" one that came with my 2004 transmission. Die cast vs sand cast?

I don't think dies wear that way.

The newer one is rougher but has fewer stress cracks from when the part cooled after casting in it, I think they changed the process. Probably not sand cast but it has that texture.

Well that is different.

Apparently the race had spun, doesn't look like much. Maybe it was just from pressure... really wish my stupid book would get here.

The bearing looked ok inside and out, I was cleaning parts last night and noticed the rear retainer plate has seen a better day.

Input and output seals are changed too. Waiting on my book to see if I need different shims for the input bearing (new housing came with one so I have two on hand now), a new input bearing and oil scoop and now the front output shaft bearing and the plate. On the fence on the rear bearing, it looks great but depending on what the plate looked like to start off with it might have ran loose. It looks like there was an indention for the bearing to start with, I don't think it took too much meat off.

R2 shop manual, note they say to use the slave cylinder mounting holes but point to the outside ears. Neither the '94 or '04 covers I have in hand have thru holes in the slave cylinder mounting holes.

My M5OD is a 1992 and it has the through holes. :dunno:

Accurate documentation is an issue in every industry. I deal with it every day in software. :annoyed:

I am dealing with R2’s though, not an R1. It might be a difference between the two.

Some newer trucks have integrated GoPro mounts... don't need any of that fancy stuff with a Custom truck. :icon_thumby:

Truck started right off. I was impressed given that it was 15* and the truck had been sitting for almost a month.

Great diversion from that R2! Driving her will keep the motivation up. Can't wait for the warmer temps to arrive.

I just did a couple loops around my cornfield, I can't wait to get it back on the road this spring and really drive it again.

I didn't get to drive it much last year so I am really missing driving it. :annoyed:

Ok, so the shop manual has a typo. It happens a LOT.

I tried using the manual to figure out what all I needed to do when combing the seats in my 05 with seats from an 02, because of course they are different, and the book referenced a number of features that didn't even exist on either seat.

Oh I know it does.

It makes me feel a little better though because the picture pointing to the correct holes is kinda crappy and not knowing there was a difference going in even if I had the correct book I would have probably followed the text and still ended up in the same boat.

1qaz should be proud.

Funny NOS is cheaper than new aftermarket. Hope is that with more OEM like stuff one of the two shims I have will have a greater chance of working so I don't have to buy a $25 shim kit. Still waiting on the baffle and oil slinger.

But that crinkly sound sounds like the doggy treat bag?!?!

Indeed I am! :icon_thumby: And I sure hope you gave them a good treat after that...
