Turn signal issues (relay or mfs?)

Hey TRS forum,

I am having an issue with what I believe is my turn signal relay or multi function switch. Sometimes the turn signals work fine (10% of the time). Other times, they don't work all together, no blinking at all. Sometimes they buzz. I am going to replace the relay now, and look into the switch. If anyone knows the exact solution please let me know.

When they do work, the issue is on the left side. The right will work, front and back, but the left side blinks fast like a bulb is out (the rear brake light is the one that blinks fast). The back and front bulbs all are working, and I have switched them around and replaced one or two so I don't think they are going bad.

Thanks

When it doesn't work, have you tried the hazards?

Yes, hazards work for the right side fine, but not the front left.

And the buzzing comes from a short in the steering column. I've noticed that when I adjust the steering wheel the buzzing goes away.

Talked to ford dealer and advanced auto parts and got part numbers for relay and turn signal switch/mfs. I definitely don't want to pay $60 diagnostic ford charges.

I wonder if pins in relay aren't aligned properly and how hard it would be to realign or replace myself. I have taken the steering column apart before when my shift tube was loose so I think I can tackle these issues.

Pull the covers off the column and see if any wires are damaged or any loose connections to the switch.

Yes, do this first. Sometimes the tabs that hold the terminals into the plastic connector break and let the wires pull out of the connector. You can buy the connector shell separately.
