Ex is looking at a 99. What engines were avail in them, and if it's a OHC, at what point does the timing chain become a concern? I took a quick look at it today,(bussiness closed) 124K $3300. All comments and suggestions welcome. :icon_thumby:

99 could have had a 4.0 or a 5.0. I think that would have been an OHC 4.0 that year. Timing chains don't become an issue until they are noisy or fail altogether. Which ever happens first. Problem with them is that the engine has to come out of the vehicle to service the rear chain.

So save to PREsume that several variables in life expectancy of timing chains? Any major concerns with the 5.0? One reason I ask is even tho she's ex, she'll come to me to fix. Plus she'd be dragging my daughter around in it . More replies welcome!!

Wish it were the OHV, worse thing with those is cyl heads, and I already did them on my son's Ranger.

Ford used the 5.0 for close to 30 years. All the major bugs were worked out long ago.

99 could be either 4.0, OHV or SOHC.

Mine was a 99 4.0 SOHC Eddie Bauer.

5.0 would be nice, but that SOHC had a lot of power, to me.

That price is high for something that old, to me.

I'm so old I try to relate to the 66 GTO, had 6.5L on the fender emblem, 389ci. so 5.0=302 SBF right?
