I have a 1994 Ranger 4.0 Automatic and the A4LD just sh*t the bed. Would an automatic tranny from a 1999 or 1996 4.0 Ranger work in my 1994? I'm guessing the answer is gonna be a no since were dealing with OBD II going into an OBD I. Thanks for any insight!

Anything pre 95 because your trans is still cable speedo. Other years will bolt up but you won't have a speedo unless you convert to electronic

Would an auto transmission out of a 1995 Explorer swap right in my 1994 Ranger?

My credo
If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical problem
No go. 1994 was hydraulic operation and 1995 up is all computer controlled.

I found an A4LD from an 88-89 explorer with the 2.9L. From what I read this transmission should bolt up to my 4.0L right? Please correct me if I'm wrong! Are the flexplate and torque converter the same? Also, I should be able to bolt on my existing transfer case?

Do you mean Bronco II? Explorer came out in '91. Either way, as long as it's a 4x4 A4LD from a 2.9 or 4.0, it should bolt up properly.

That vehicle never existed.

There are differences within the years of the A4LD, and you have the last most advanced year. You should try to go no earlier than a 93 because some functions changed from hydraulic to electronic control over the years.
