Is there a place I can go to see what my VIN says about my truck.

I've been on the internet but I have a few things I can't figure out.
4th position "Y"
12th position "B"
13-17 "44808"

I have tried the internet over and over. I must be doing something wrong. When I put my vin number in I get the year, and features that came on all rangers. Where can I find MY specific ranger codes, like paint color, engine and trans combo, ( it says I have a manual 5spd, but not which trans, i.e.m5od) The internet and DMV sites seem a little generic.

Or am I going at it wrong and need different cereal #'s for this info. My truck is torn into pieces right now, so finding part numbers will not be a problem.

Ford encodes far less information into a VIN than most people think. Only Ford's decoder will give you a build sheet from a VIN.

If you have a manual trans any time after 1992 it is an M5OD, that's the only one there was.

Position 4 is your gross weight range.

Positions 12-17 are the series/sequence number. I was always told that the letter denotes something similar to a 100,000 place, but I have noticed that certain models all seem to have the same character there, for example I have never seen a Fusion that didn't have position 12 be an R. 13-17 are the sequence number within the series denoted by the letter. So if you have A00001, that is the first vehicle Ford built in that model year. B50000 is supposedly the 150,000.

No vehicle has a "cereal" number because "cereal" is food made from grain. Most vehicles do have "serial" numbers that denote their position in a series.

LMC's catalog has a page that has a good explanation, as do the Haynes manuals.

There is only general info for VIN

The serial number, at the end of the VIN, can be used by Ford Dealer to get details, but they don't usually have info on a vehicle after it's 10 or 15 years old, but Ford does.
You could contact Ford and for a price they used to be able to send you a copy of the Window Sticker as sold, which is a neat thing to have if you are doing an "as stock" restoration

Paint codes are on the drivers door label, along with other specific info about the truck

Drivers door label also has other vehicle specific info, like springs, trans model, and axle type/ratio

Axle stuff seen here: http://www.therangerstation.com/how-to/axles/ford-7-5-8-8-inch-axle-tag-door-codes/

Look under TRANS on the label in the picture to see trans code

Manual transmission codes seen here: http://www.therangerstation.com/stock-ranger-specifications/ford-ranger-manual-transmissions/

M denotes M5OD-R1
J denotes M5OD-R1HD, only used with the 4.0l SOHC engines in 2001 and up Rangers

The attached pdf tells as much about your Ranger as can be gleaned from the VIN; as has been noted, the door code provides another level of information - subtly better than LMC's...

In addition to position 4 denoting weight class, it denotes brakes system (always hydraulic for Rangers) and airbags (without/front/front & side curtain); I believe all Rangers are Y or Z. (always front airbags only)

Only way to get a full account of what your Ranger came with is to get a Marti Report on it based on the VIN. They have all the (well most) records from Ford going back to '67'. Got mine for the 2003 FX4 for $40. Lists a lot more than what's in VIN or door data sticker, all the options.

Do you also have a Ford Ranger? I've got one more last year for my collection. The total number of my monsters is 3 pieces (2008, 2011, 2015). I purchased the used Ford Ranger 2011 and used it for basic checks on the history and VIN decoder through https://www.faxvin.com/vin-decoder/ford It's very nice that there is a special section for drivers of Ford. If you want to put your truck for sale, you can without any fear go through all online checks for a VIN decoder, even for the sake of interest.

Wow there Mr. Spammer.

The total number of my monsters is 3 pieces (2008, 2011, 2015).
Besides the bad English, I can assure you that this person listing their location as 'USA California' doesn't own a 2015 Ford Ranger.

Their IP address is that of a known forum spammer out of Finland.
