wellp, its easter monday and im bored at home, so i figured its time to start my official build thread for my Ranger.
Picked up this 91 Ranger with the 4L for $450 about a month ago :D got a sweet ass deal on her because it was running rough, needed a rad, water pump, heater core, tires, shocks, the windshield is cracked a bit, and the a4ld is on its way out. other than that the body and interior is in great shape and i was able to drive it home given all those issues! lol
Was going to build a high perf 97 OHV 4L for it mated to an m5od. but now i'm settled on a GT-40P 5L mated to a granny gear T19. other plans are..
-Explorer 8.8 rear end (for the larger axles and disc brakes) with locker
-Front locker & Dana 44 knuckle swap
-Slight suspention lift & 2inch body lift
-Sliders
-Extra or larger fuel tank for more Ranger range lol

she'll be a slow process because landscaping season is just finally getting back to full time work again but i'll get there.
only things i've done as of yet are, water pump, thermostat, rad, heater-core, fan, idler pully, and basic tune up to get me by for now

Ripped all the a/c crap off that didn't work anyway... i don't know how anyone ever changed out the plugs on the right bank before lol. can get in there no probs now, especially when i install the non a/c heater box... probly just wait until i do the 5L swap over this fall/winter for that though

Go ahead, the heater box isn't hard to change with the engine in. Basically just remove the filter box and change it. The hardest part is the nuts inside. Those are a pain if you're as big as I am...

I'm not sure what size you were thinking of but I'll assume you were going with 33's. Not much of a deal at $294.99 each. Right off the top of my head, NSOR has a deal on 33" Goodyear MTR's @ $219 each. (they're in Langley.) http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/van/ptd/5005182746.html
Quite often if you ask for the best price they can find at a tire shop they can turn something good up. I've seen 33" MT's as cheap as $188 each that way. Definitely shop around and get them to write the price on a business card as a reference for later too.
Happy shopping. :D

Well been a slow start to the year for the build. Put a new alternator and windshield in er today. Just started a new job. Ordering new Duff body mounts and PA 2" body lift kit next pay day. Got a used set of 265 75 r16's for free first day on the new job! So that was a score. Gonna pick up a set of 16" jeep grand cherokee rims from the local pick a part to throw on the tires I got, that'll only cost $100.

so that's the plan so far for the next month

new body mounts, 2 inch body lift, 16 inch rims and tires

Pics to come

Cheers!

also i've been thinking of going with the zf5 tranny & np205 case for my 5.0L swap... that 5th gear would sure be nice on the highway. and i'd never break that combo with a mild five oh.

ZF5 Tranny

they had a tranny sale of $50 for any tranny at the local pick a part so i went and scoped out the fullsize fords there for a zf5 and found one! so i scooped it :) it was mated to a 4.9L. Man what a steal of a deal :yahoo:
