need some help on wireing in a 4.0 swap

DONER truck is a 02 4x4 4.0 sohc auto

TRUCK GOING INTO is a 99 2wd 4.0 ohv auto

The swap is pretty straight forward cut and paste for the engine and wireing. I am going to be swaping in a 2wd auto trans though from a 02 explorer i belive.

Do i need a 2wd gem or will the 4x4 one work?

4x4 one should work, but you will probably have GEM codes about missing 4x4 stuff.

Just so im 100% on the same page the gem also has pats and other stuff on it? I mean would a 2wd one from the junkyard be just a plug in play or i would have to have the pats dialed in and other stuff reprogrammed?

I think that year the PATS module is stand alone and the GEM is not involved.

If you replace the instrument cluster, the PCM, or the PATS module the PATS system will need reset. You can do it yourself with ForScan.

Thanks for all the help I really appreciate it, there are only a hand full of rangers in the junkyard and they are all 99 or older.

I have a few more questions.

1, the doner truck has a 4x4 Motorola control module, is there a 2wd control module or do i just leave that plug blank?

2, Does a same year 02 ranger have the same dash wiring harness regardless of what engine size? In assuming yes but I wouldn't know for sure.

THANKS AGAIN I REALLY APPRECIATE THE HELP

1) What part of 2wd needs a module to control it?

2) Yes.
