Bama boy:

Read Jbrown1238's One more 2wd .... thread. He goes into the detail on installation of the T5 (cutting floor, hydraulic clutch, transmission mount, etc).

As Bobbywalter was expressing: '97-04 M5OD R2 from V-6 F-150 is identical shifter/transmission mount/clutch connector/drive shaft position. If you don't have fabrication skills; that is the manual to use - everything is a bolt in. Using a donor Explorer just replace the 4R70W automatic/torque converter/flex plate with 5.0 flywheel/clutch/pressure plate/manual transmission.

I'm soft on M5OD not being as much fun (I've replaced too many T-5s in buddy's 'stangs). Also, I occasionally use my Ranger as a truck; and the lower 1st gear is nice. (I went with higher ratio rear end for better mileage).

Note: M5OD R2 out of '94-95 T-bird SC might be best of lot - 1st isn't as low/5th is higher OD....

For the T5 you'll need to notch about 3" to the rear from the original shifter hole. The R2 from 97-03 F150 V6 lines up in the same spot, as bobby stated...

If you are going T5 - you are looking for a '93 or newer 'World class" box. You can tell world class by the front counter shaft bearing race says "Timken" (non WC doesn't have any lettering stamped in). You just need bellhousing off to view this; no transmission dis-assembly required. Ideal box is probably BW serial # 1352-242 ('95 Mustang WC).

If you found an S-10 T-5 for right price; swapping the tail shaft puts shifter back in correct spot (I believe it can be done; but haven't done it myself...)

Remember Mustang (T5's original home) had GVWR of ~4k lbs/GCWR 5k lbs; keep your trailer light. :)

Any mustang trans from sbout 86 to 95, with the 93-95 being the prefered as stated. Has to be from a 3.8 or 5.0, not the 4.6. The T5 can be upgraded to handle 60% more power for about 500 (I did this to my mustang back in the day)...

If I were to get a good used t5 from 93-95 Cobra would the bellousing bolt up to the explorer 5.0?
