I'm looking at picking up a Bronco 2 (manual trans, 4wd), and will likely have to use a dolly to tow it with. It's got a electric shift transfer case, and it's apparently stuck in four high, I do know the trick to pull the shift motor off and switch it to the neutral position though.

My question is, am I better off just pulling the drive shaft off the rear end? It would probably take less time. Is there any problem with just pulling the shaft off?

Thanks

just pull the shaft off, and tie it up w/ a strap of some sort.
its just 4 12mm 12 point bolts...

then, convert to a manual t/case-- and you'll have a true N position

...that are really super tight.

Unless you got a long breaker bar (or something to put over the end of a box end wrench), I bet it would take less time to pull off the shift motor and just spin that shaft to where it's pointing between the 4HI and 4LO marks on the case.
