I want to upgrade my factory head unit to something nicer. I don't want anything insanely expensive, but I don't want a piece of crap either. I want something that has an aux port so I can plug my iPod into it, and also have a cd player so I can listen to those too.

All opinions are welcome.

Thanks

I have a Pioneer DEH-3100UB that has an Ipod control/dock, front auxillary, front USB (great for a thumb drive), and obviously a CD player that is rarely used. It is an older model, and Pioneer has updated them a bit. But this thing puts out decent power, and never skips a beat.

The new unit is a DEH-3300UB. Here's a pic:

And a link to Pioneers page: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/CD-Receivers/DEH-3300UB

Here's an Amazon link, where they have it for 95 bucks. http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-DEH-3300UB-Receiver-Direct-Control/dp/B004BLJXLQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1312425856&sr=8-1

I prefer to have a rear USB so I don't have a cable or thumbdrive sticking out of the face of my radio. Basically in my '150 I have the cable coming out of the back of the HU under my CB base on the tranny hump and under the front seat with a thumbdrive on it.

Sony has a neat tray thing so rather than a CD you can put your thumbdrive or ipod inside the radio. JVC has a nice looking radio with front and rear USB, front aux input and you can change the color of the face.

Thinking it will be my next radio...

I had a girlfriend that bought me a JVC headunit that was about $300. Its awesome as heck! It has the Ipod cord running out through my glovebox, and it charges my ipod too (havent seen many thats do that). Its got all kinds of things it can do, but i just use the radio, ipod, and cd player.

Ill sell it to ya maybe?

My current Head unit is a Sony MEX-DV2200

It not only plays both mp3 and wma files on CDR/RW, but on DVD+/-R/RW discs.

2000 mp3/wma tracks on a DVD+R that costs pennies and can be swapped out
in seconds is "nice". The fact that I have a CD-changer filled with mp3-CDs
AND spare disc magazines that can also be changed in seconds makes my
owning an iPod pointless, though I do have a connection for an iPod if a
passenger brings their iPod/iPhone with them

It has a front panel AUX. I connect my laptop (the one with the 500gb drive) to that

It also has a video out and it plays DVD, SA-CD & VCD discs

Though I don't currently have a video display for it it's handy for listening to the
audio track of concert DVD's in full 7.1 Audio

I too, have always had excellent luck with Pioneer head units. I even picked one up at the junkyard out of a vehicle with the windshield smashed in letting the elements in. It worked for years until I sold the car I put it in. They are great quality for the money. JVC seems to be good too. I had one that played mp3 cds and had an aux input in my B2 for a while, and it worked really good. On the other hand, I have never had good luck with Sony head units. I bought an Xplod mp3 CD player for over $150 and in less than 6 months it was garbage. Skipped like crazy, had random static when playing CDs, general poor sound quality, etc.

Can't believe nobody has brought up alpine. I had a cda-9856 and loved it before it was stolen. Actually kind of looking for another though they don't make them anymore.
