Hey y'all. So a few days ago I decided I'd like to do an engine swap in my ranger. I've been pretty dead set on a 302 swap because I've heard how easy it is compared to other engines but I've also always had a love for diesel so a 4bt swap has always been in the back of my mind. With that being said, could anyone compare and contrast the two swaps? I'm very undecided on an engine. If possible, could you include estimated build time and an average cost.

well, 302 will be easier, faster, and cheaper.

4bt will be far more expensive, take a lot longer, but would be way more awesome.

Unless the 4bt can be acquired for real cheap I'd go 302. Even eBay they are like 2k. Then u need a trans, t case, radiator, fuel pump, new lines, fab brackets, and a lot of misc work. It's a pain unless u r ready for all the down time and cost. Whatever way you go good luck!
I'll be doing my diesel this winter. I acquired a Perkins turbo diesel 4 cyl with a trans out of a running bread truck for free that's why I'm going that route.

thanks for the replies, y'all. Being a college student I'd say it's in my best interest to go with the 302 swap based on opinions. Once it's started I'll be posting progress with pics. Wish me luck! :headbang:
