I goofed and deleted the thread, sorry.
I was able to go back and copy it but can't restore it myself. I'll see if someone higher up can help.

unfortunately, the original post is gone forever.

Here is what I was able to copy;

Default 2.3 2001 what engine will fit?
ok,
so i´m sitting here in germany and my ranger died beyond recovery, need to put another engine which is really hard since these cars have never officially been sold here so its almost impossible to find parts...

however, i really want to keep it and will do anything to get it back on the road.

i need to replace the engine since the block has been destroyed beyond repair. i don´t want to swap for diesel or 6cyl, just keep my 2.3 4cl.
which other years will fit? what do i have to look for? up to which year?

this is my car:

Car VIN: 1FTYR10D91TA88306
Manufactured Year: 2001
Make of Vehicle: Ford
Car Model: Ranger
Auto Style: REGULAR CAB PICKUP 2-DR
Car Engine: 2.3L L4 SOHC 8V
Production Country: UNITED STATES
Vehicle Trim: XL 2.3 2WD
Sequence Number of Production: A88306
Car Gearbox: 4-Speed Automatic

for example, would this be a replacement that fits?
2008 Ford Truck-Ranger 93K Miles Engine 2.3L (VIN D, 8th digit, 4-140)

https://www.ebay.de/itm/2008-Ford-Tr...oAAOSwIC1Z3B2R

Thank you very much!

Yes, that example engine would fit. Any US Ranger 4-cylinder form 2001.5 on up would work. Some of the globally sold ones, which were very different, had 2.3L engines that are not the same.

Also any Ford product that had the engine code (8th digit of the VIN for US VINs) as D will have the same engine. I don't know how that might change on international vehicles.

The 2.3 is a Mazda design, and the "D" code listed on the German site should be a bolt-in replacement. You could find a 2.3 in a Mazda '3', I think, that would need to have the head gasket changed(coolant routing may be different as it is FWD, Ranger, RWD.), along with the accessories.

The only drop-in engine was in the Rangers between 2001.5 and 2011.

you have conflicting information in your car description.
2.3L L4 SOHC 8V is the older "lima" style engine used up to about 1998.

the newer Duratec engine should be 2.3L L4 DOHC 16V. it began use in mid year 2001, continued thru 2011.

the 8th digit in your VIN is D, that should be the Duratec engine.

any Mazada B2300 pickups in Europe? they are the same truck.

the intake manifold is slightly different between a 2001 and 2008. the 2001 has a diverter flapper mechanism, the 2008 will not have it.
