I have finally got all the brake parts installed...new lines...new cylinders in the rear...fairly new calipers...all new brake pads, shoes and parking brake cables...

I had left the master cylinder dry for nearly four years (gosh, time really flies when you have no funds)...and was wondering what would be the best way to bleed them from a completely dry system...

Do I just dump in the fluid and open one of the bleeders and start pumping or, as someone mentioned, a 'gravity bleed' initially?

TIA!

If your is dry you need to bench bleed. Or just dump the fluid in and try it. Worst thing that happens is it doesn't bleed and you have to pull it off to bench bleed.

Thanks, I tried dumping in the fluid and managed to get the rear flowing, but needed a bit of priming on the front. Seems to be working OK...found a few leaks in the connections that needed to be tightened...

The sectioin on bench bleeding in the Haynes manual seems a bit difficult to do if you don't have a third arm or a helper...hopefully won't come to that...

I'm trying one of those one-man bleeder kits (only $17 at CTC)...but the instructions are in such small type that I can't read them without a magnifier...or glasses...getting to that age I guess...

Thanks again for the input!
