Default how to disconnect '93 auto shift linkage??

I'm in the middle of dropping the A4LD AT out of my son's '93 ranger 2.3 and I have the speedometer cable out, and the drive shaft out but I am stuck at the shift linkage.
I cannot figure out how to remove or disconnect it. I don't see any pins. I took the small nut off the top part but the actual shift rod will not come out.

Any ideas, help is appreciated.
