i bought a 1989 2wd ext cab ranger the trans is toast i am looking to make this truck a 4x4 what should i use all the m50 dr1 transmissions i found are really high priced. this is a 2.3 motor
 
find a 4 cylinder 4x4 ranger and grab the tranny and transfer case. I'm assuming you are going to use a dana 30 from a jeep? the M5OD's (used on all '87 and newer 4 cylinders) have an integral bellhousing so it has to be from a 4 cylinder, the other tranny's have replacable bellhousings assuming you can find a 2wd and 4wd of the same one...
