Stripped Stud

Hey,

Couldn't find a better place to stick this one.

I've got at least 1 stripped stud on the back left wheel.

98' Mazda B2500, larger (10"?) drums. My question is: How easily can I get these studs out? Do I HAVE to pull the axle?

Any help appreciated!
 
It's easier than nailing two boards together. Just smack it with a hammer until it comes out.

Sometimes it is hard to finagle them out, but they do come out without pulling the axle.

While you are at the parts store you should also purchase an axle nut for the front of an 01-07 Escape, a single uncapped chrome lug that fits the truck, and a jar of anti-seize. These items will aid the installation of the new stud(s).

Just curious what the Escape axle nut is for???
 
The axle nut is the spacer to give the lug nut enough space to pull the stud through the hub. I like the 1st gen Escape axle nuts for this because the hole is the perfect size and they have a bearing on them so they can spin on the washer.
 
I have a couple of these in aftermarket form that don't have the washer/bearing. My OEM nut does though - it's a much better design.

That's a sweet idea though. Thanks for the explanation.
 
Awesome! That makes my weekend easier. Another question... are studs standard across trucks? My Toyota buddy gave me a few spares, will they fit?

the threads might be the same but there are a wide variety of different studs with varied lengths and diameters
