I just purchased a 99 XLT 4x4. Here is the issue when it starts it revs and idles at about 1200rpm and it is sluggish when you take off. After driving for a few minuets it seems to settle down and runs fine. I repalced the trany fluid and filter put in new plugs and replaced the non-existant air filter. The truck has 137000 miles auto trans. Any ideas on what may be causing the high idle at start-up? Thanks in advance Max.

Welcome to the forums!!! I'm not really sure if this would cause a high idle as my truck doesn't have one, but I would check and probably replace your cam synchro. With 137000 miles and an unknown history you would be saving yourself A LOT of heartache if you go ahead and replace it now instead of waiting for it to go on its own. Just my two cents.

My 2000 idles high when I start it too. I just ignore it because it runs fine otherwise, except for the transmission. That's on its way out at 181K.
