Default Truck Topped Out Yesterday?

I tried to test the top speed on my truck last night...it peaked at 90 mph. The engine made a sound like it was governed there. Is there any way to remove the limiter that on the computer? Or is it another problem? I have an 02 edge with a 3.0 and 4.10 gears, if that helps.

Thanks

Computer needs reprogrammed to remove the limiter. Not only are your tires probably not rated for those speeds, but truck is governed because those speeds aren't safe in a Ranger.

1st, the tires are most likely rated for 105, second the 02 edge 3.0 handles amazingly well for at truck period not to mention the high stance it has. To the original poster, becareful though if you get it to a corner to hot and tight and apply at hair to much brake she's gona turn and bite you. As for the speed limiter, you should have been up about 95 when it hit. There is no factory way with in the US to change it (it can be change at european dealerships), a programmer is the only way to go. I would ask though why, our trucks just do not have the power to hit 95 plus fast and hard enough. Oh ya, what it in turns at the crest of a knoll, she'll what to walk to the outside, tap the brakes just as the nose crest and that will keep her planted. PS I like to let me Edge 3.0 run the back roads of Greene county and Schohaire county NY. I have been know to keep my brothers 05 Taurus just in front of me thru turns it struggled with at 50 and 60 mph.

I was on the freeway at midnight. There were like 2 people on the road so I figured I would open it up. I will definitely look into a programmer. I would agree with Tom. My 02 Edge handles a lot better than my 05 2.3 xlt.

Thanks Guys

Nah. I say let him. Wait til the night when there's an undercover car or one hidden off the side of the road that tags him. One less idiot without a drivers license.

A tires speed rating is not the max speed a tire can handle.... It is the speed at which it can handle for 20min before overheating. I get tired of people talking about max speeds of a tire. And as for that kinda speed on the street, i dont condone it but am not inocent. My truck does 105mph before hitting the govoner. And I am fully aware of the consiquenses of my actions.

Great... so you don't care if you kill yourself....

However, I am sure the family in the minivan would like to make it home.

This is exactally the point. Your not the one who will be killed, it the innocent ones.
