So ive just replaced the head gaskets along with every other gasket in my 2.9 87 ranger. Fixed my white smoke problem but now i have an oil leak(looks like its coming from the left side). Along with the oil im getting smoke strait from under the hood which is more than likely the oil burning. I thought it might be the valve cover leaking oil out but i took that off today and cleaned it very well and sealed the bolt holes with some RTV. Anyone have a thought before I take it to a mechanic? |

could possibly be the head. you might not of tightened one of the head bolts all the way. the same thing happened to my freinds neon. he replaced all the gaskets from the head up and had the leak

Most likely the valve cover gaskets are still leaking. Sometimes it takes a couple tries to stop them from leaking. The oil drops onto the hot exhaust manifold and clouds of smoke roll out from under the hood. I could even smell burned oil in the cab with the windows closed on mine.
Search valve cover gasket on this site and you will find numerous threads on what to watch out for when installing them. I used rubber/cork gaskets, but would use the blue neoprene if I was to do it again.
