Sunday evening we got really high winds from Ike. It was crazy because it was really windy (60-70mph) but we didn't have any rain. Our power surged on and off and reset the satelite dish several times interrupting the Cleveland/Pittsburgh game. The power never actually went out but for a few seconds.
Monday morning I got up and took the kids to school. No school. Today (Tuesday), still no school. Apparently, there is somewhere around 30,000 people just in our county without power. I guess we were pretty lucky since we still have it. It's kind of crazy to think that we were effected by a hurricane from the Gulf of Mexico. Anytime I see hurricane forcasts all the way down there, I just figure we'll get some rain.

We've been out power since Sunday. Our new house lost power sometime after I went to the north side of Columbus because a 100+ year old tree fell down on my Mom's garage. Her power is also out, mainly because the powerline couldn't take the weight of the above mentioned tree.
As of last night our power is still not on. It's been on the whole time here at work, but yesterday out internet and phones were down. I don't know how I am going to get this huge tree cut up. I guess I'll have to take a day off work and borrow a flatbed trailer to haul it on. Hope the B2 has enough balls to drag it around. There are still 284,000 people in Franklin County without power.

If the tree is not bigger than 32" in diameter, you can cut it with a 16" chainsaw. If its bigger than that, you can try to find a 20" bar and chain to bolt onto your chainsaw. You will probably need to take it really easy unless you have on of those old beefy chainsaws that have more power than they need (like my MAC610 that i converted to a 20" bar).
Dont forget to get some pics of the BII dragging this huge tree around!

Southern Indiana go hit hard. We lost power on Sunday around 12pm and still have no power. There are 5 counties in Southern Indiana and 250,000 people in Louisville, KY without power. They are telling everyone that it wont come back on until late this week or early next week.
I have been cutting trees like crazy. It looks like multiple tornado's went through Charlestown on Sunday. I will post pictures when my PC gets restored; thank goodness for an iPhone for communication to the outside world. |

Our local power company just sent 10 crews to Ohio, they were going to Texas until you got the storms there. I know Chicago really got the rain, new record for one day.

I live about 30 west of Cincinnati and we got the high winds from Ike and the electric went out about 3 p.m. Sunday and finally came back on about half hour ago, so about two days without electric.

I got gas for 2.59. Yes two dollars and fifty nine cents. It was awesome. Gas had just jumped to 3.59, and i heard about a station down the road that had their pumps all screwed up. The sign said 3.59 but the pumps read 2.59, and thats what i got it for. Fourty bucks got me fifteen gallons of gas and filled me up from quarter tank. It was great.

I used to live in southern indiana and still have a lot of relatives there. Trees down everywhere, looks like tornadoes went through. Luckily everyone is ok but most are out of power, or were at least yesterday. News reports are saying I think 5 people in Indiana alone killed by falling trees. That's pretty crazy that a storm going northwest into texas could turn and still have enough power left to go across the midwest and bring winds that high. The Sunday Night game at Cleveland was a lot of fun to watch though. Probably one of the funniest football games I've seen in a long time.

It's funny you say that the same thing happened to me also. Most of my friends lost power and still don't have any while i didn't lose my power at all.

We lucked out.Power went out for about 30 seconds, long enough for the generator to kick in but not enough for the power to transfer over.We did loose some newly installed siding(grr) and the neighbors tree lost a few trees.Towns around us are still without power and may not come back on until Friday.
