a4ld kickdown cable

I have a 1988 ranger 4x4 2.9l with the a4ld. I have two cables on the top of the gas pedal a throttle cable and i dont know what the other one is am thinking it is a transmission kickdown cable. Well i got under the truck and followed the cable to the side of the transmission. The cable is messed up in a spot the black covering is gone and some wires are hanging out. So i got someone to floor the pedal and the cable moved but it didnt move the metal linkage that it is hooked to. I van move the linkage by hand easily so should i look for a cable at a jubkyard od somewhere?

you can put zip ties above the gas pedal to take up slack if its just loose. i have mine still hooked up to the gas pedal on my truck even tho i swapped in the manual, what i did was get a throttle linkage "bead" from an rc car, cut the end off the cable above the gas pedal so i can loosed the allen bolt on the bead and adjust the cable how i liked it.

junk yard or lmc truck or something may have the cable, i've never had to buy one tho

It is a transmission kickdown cable. there is an adjustment on the engine side of the firewall. Make sure it goes through the plastic bushing at the top of the pedal, go outside the plastic housing at the firewall has a spring loaded recessed button. Push it in and pull out on the cable, then release the button. When you push in on the pedal to full throttle, it will self adjust. It sounds like you might have to replace the cable if it won't activate the lever at the trans. At full throttle the lever at the trans should just hit its stop.

I dont think you can adjust mine cause it has a bad spot in the cable. Thd black insulation is gone and when you push the pedal the cable just bends itds doednt pull on the metal linkage. Am going to the junkyard today to see if they have any rangers that have one

Does anyone know how to disconnect this cable from the side of the transmission? I know how to disconnect it from the pedal.

i dont remember what it looks like, but i believe its just a ball end on the trans and the cable just pops off it

I went to the junkyard and got one off of a 90 ranger and i got it to work i had to rig it up just a little though but at least i can floor it and do 5k rpms. just gotta figure out whats holding it back from doing more than 85.

check if you have cable slop in the throttle cable by the pedal, and add zip ties.

if you have a helper, have them hold the gas pedal to the floor (engine off of course) and check if the butterfly is open fully. if not you have slop in the throttle cable

The part that comes out of the firewall doesn't move does it? I pushed mine back into place(about a half inch) and the shifting problems I was having have mostly gone away but I think the piece the kickdown cable runs through might be broken.
