Graduation Project

Well I came up with a good idea for my final project, solar powered rc car. I know I know. This coming from a guy who just dropped a 5.0 under the hood. It is going to be interesting. The plan is to put daytime runners on it as well. This is going to be AWESOME!

Well today I told me instructor what I wanted to do and he was pleasantly surprised. I have to do some more research and design an effective storage system. Also I have to figure out if I want to make it a continuous charging system and independent. I am leaning more toward the independent for simplicity purposes.

I also have to find a solar panel that will not blow up the batteries. So far I know what I want to do and now it is time to put my plan into action.

I will post picks of the donor RC vehicle this weekend most likely.

UPDATE:

The rough total cost for this little project is around $300. One of the main issues that we have ran into is the solar cell that we choose, 9V, only puts out 360mA's of max power. So we have opted to use the solar panel for charging purposes. We are looking at a charging indicator circuit to tell when the battery is fully charged. We have also figured out how to do the day time running lights as well. It consists of a couple resistors, capacitors and 555 IC timer. We have also decided we are going to use a Mini Cooper 1/10th body. Not the new style body but the old school from the UK. I am really forward to having this done so I can focus on more interesting projects that I want to build.

It is completely stripped of the motor and I need to do some trimming on the metal plate where the motor sat.

Motor mounts are removed and we built/simulated our charge indicator circuit. Here is the schematic.

We have also built/prototyped the day time running lights as well but I do not have the schematic for it. Sorry guys.

i remember making those circuits on high school, man it was fun.
we used a program called croco clip, and others that i cant remember right now.
building em was really nice too

Your not the only one. Time is a factor now that I do not really care for. The committee that is over seeing my project fcuked me over by not buying the parts I need so now I have to come out of pocket.
