I have a 2004 Ford Ranger V6 4.0L 5-Speed 4wd with 180k and i recently had trouble codes:
P0420 is Catalyst system efficiency below threshold, ( bank 1 )
P0430 " ", (bank 2)

The truck is running fine and doesn't idle rough or stall. I checked the fuel pressure and im getting 70 psi constant. Im not sure if gutting the catalytic would fix the problem so does anyone know the remedy to my codes?

Gutting the cats will cause the same codes.....plus it's illegal.

This needs some diagnosing, could be failed cats or could be failed sensors....not too often both sensors die at the same time though. You would need a shop or someone with a scan tool that can monitor PIDS to watch the upstream and down stream sensors and see if they are mirroring each other. If so, you need new cats.

Fuel pressure should be 60-65 psi key on engine off or running.

I monitored the upstream o2 sensors with a voltmeter and they seem to fluctuate steadily from high to low but never above 1 volt. the downstream after the cat o2 was reading .800. so im led to believe its the cat. i ordered a new one and its on its way. hopefully that will fix these fault code.
