Got some parts cleaned and repainted. That's about all I have done so far besides taking measurements and ordering parts.

I am thinking of ordering some Rough Country 6.5" XJ coils for the front. They are 190lbs instead of the EB's at 300lbs. Plus if I calculated correctly, it should make it 2-3" lower than the EB's.

Aka, what I have on my truck basiclly, gave me 5 inches of lift in the front and that is with the springs broken in. I have to hop into my truck or I can pull myself up in it but far from a jump.

All the parts are ordered. Got a ring and pinion 4.56 to match the front. And ordered some rough country 6.5 xj coils. So everything is on the way for the swap and should be starting soon.

Got a present today at my front door....

Motive 4.56 and Motive master kit and also got a solid pinion spacer so I dont have to use the crush sleeve. The solid spacer is nice when setting these up, if you make a mistake and need to take it apart, you don't have to get another crush sleeve.

My uncle works for National Drivetrain in chicago and he got me a good deal on the parts... :headbang:

Just ordered new U-bolts from RuffStuff. Should be here next week. I now will have everything I need to get this build underway. Should be starting it within two weeks if all goes as planned.

I'd rather setup my gears with a crush sleeve anyways. Much easier to sneak up on the preload than to torque it down - wrong preload - take it apart - new shim stack - torque it down - wrong preload - take it apart - new shim stack - repeat repeat repeat.

bobby - go check your pm's on rrorc. :thefinger:

Ive done a couple of 8.8's with the shim packs and I havent had a problem. Set it up, torque it, and forget it. If you use the thickness of the previous crush sleeve as a starting point, its a hell of a lot easier to get the preload right the first time. Both times for me, the thickness of the crush sleeve was perfect and I didnt have to pull it back apart. Id do a shim pack way before Id ever do a crush sleeve again, much easier...

And they are better when being converted from 2wd to 4wd.

If for some reason the pinion depth is not right and have to take it apart and add a shim, then the crush sleeve is not useable anymore. So that is why I choose to use the spacer instead of the sleeve. Also, if you have to change a pinion seal, then you dont have to take the whole diff apart to change the crush sleeve.

I ran out of time today to finish the gear change. Got it all torn apart and on the assembly side now. Here are some pics, it's hard to take pictures with dirty oily hands so I tend to forget to take them untill I am done...

I might need to get some new axle bearings soon...
