Is the anti theft on a 98-00 Ranger just a stater interupt?

If i was to swap PCMs and it was not programmed to keys, could I turn the key to run and jump the starter relay to get started? Or is the fuel pump also disabled?

I will get it programmed, but I want to make sure it runs first if possible.

I'm not sure exactly what is shut down by the PATS, but it is more than a starter interrupt. I suspect it stops ignition and fuel injection. I have tried to bypass mine, and have even removed the PATS module, but it stops the PCM from allowing an engine start. If you hold a programmed key near the switch, it will start with an unchipped key, and continue running after the programmed key is moved away. It seems as if the PCM needs an OK to start signal from PATS before anything will happen.

My problem is I dont have the key for the truck the PCM came from. I only have the key for my ignition.

They were all different. Some of the early ones were starter interrupt only, some were fuel system interrupt only. Some were both.

I would think that a 98 to 2000 would probably be starter only, but the manual doesn't say.

In my 2000 Explorer it was fuel. It would crank until the battery was dead.
