I have a 2000 2.5L with 5 speed manual. It needs an oil change and I'm tired of crawling around underneath it. Has anyone pumped the oil out of the dipstick tube? I had a Benz 300E I could do it with because the tube went almost to the bottom of the pan. I haven't tried putting a flexible tube down the Rangers tube yet but I've tried it before with other cars and didn't have much success. I have one of the orange hand pumps that I used to use on the Benz but it doesn't suck real well on a narrow tube. Anybody ever try this? Thanks all!

Sounds like a lot of trouble to go to to still have to crawl under and change the filter.

I can get the filter from the top which is why I want to do the oil that way too. Maybe someone else has some experience like that.

My credo
Break it right the first time. Fix it better the next time.
I would not attempt anything major on your truck with what little patience you have changing the oil.

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
I feel like you would get a more complete change if you drain it the normal way. I normally do mine when the engine and oil is hot so it drains better. I give it plenty of time before I install the plug and refill. I just don't want any more of the old dirty oil remaining than absolutely necessary.

@Craig0320
I've done the front end and clutch so far as well as the minor stuff, including all the spark plugs and wires. I guess after crawling around, in and under cars/trucks/aircraft/whatever for 55 years my patience isn't in question. But thanks for playing anyway.

@ericbphoto
When I did my Benz that way the first time I removed the drain plug and the pan was essentially dry. But the Benz was designed that way. Since I haven't had the pan off the Ranger yet I don't know if I could pump out of the bottom of it. That's why I asked the question. But your point's valid. Thanks.

Go to an extended-service oil and change it once a year. My old bones have trouble getting up and down these days too.
